I want to share this infographic from Mattie Dog which brings some shocking numbers to our attention.

I was quite shocked to see 30-40% of shelter animals euthanized – pretty upsetting numbers. However, this information reinforces the importance of spaying and neutering pets. It’s also a reminder that there are so many wonderful shelter pets out there that need a good home.

The numbers are interesting when comparing dogs and cats. I’m not surprised about the owner returned rates, but it is shocking that only 10 percent of animals brought to a shelter are spayed or neutered. I thought it would be a little higher than that. Very informative!
